The History of The Viking Heart Alliance
The story of The Viking Heart Alliance begins in 2024 with a simple idea and a big heart. Preston Hoy had long admired his mentor, Randy Barstad, a man known for pouring his time and energy into community traditions like the Lindford Penny Carnival. Inspired by that example, Preston shared a dream with his wife, Holly: hosting a community Christmas Party for the town of Littlefork. Holly, always his biggest supporter, was immediately all in.
A Team Forms
To bring the vision to life, Preston and Holly reached out to friends who shared the same passion for community. Randy and Donna Barstad jumped in without hesitation, proudly taking on the roles of Nutcrackers for the event.
Kyle and Rebecca Kimball joined next, and instantly became unforgettable. Rebecca stepped into the role of the Grinch and stole the show with her quick wit and incredible character work. Kyle took charge of the kitchen, keeping food moving and hot chocolate flowing with the calm confidence of someone who had been doing it for years.
Preston and Holly rounded out the cast as Santa and Mrs. Claus. Watching young girls run up to Mrs. Claus with hand‑drawn gifts and endless questions became one of the most touching moments of the night.
By the end of that Christmas Party, it was clear: this wasn’t just a one‑time event. This was a team with heart, purpose, and a shared joy in serving others. One moment sealed it, when Kyle said, “Man, I never realized how good it would feel to serve others. Just to see the joy on their faces makes this all worthwhile.”
That feeling became the heartbeat of what would soon become The Viking Heart Alliance.
Growing Traditions
In April 2025, the group hosted the first 1950’s Easter Sock Hop, a hit with every generation. Older community members smiled as kids danced to classic tunes, and the youth learned new moves from volunteer Hannah Junker. Holly and Rebecca appeared as the Easter Bunnies, while Kyle, Randy, and Preston worked the kitchen as the “soda jerk boys,” serving treats with a side of nostalgia.
Next came the Drive‑In Movie Night, a creative twist designed for golf carts, side‑by‑sides, and picnic blankets. Space was limited, but the excitement wasn’t. Families gathered under the stars to watch The Goonies on a 30‑foot screen the group purchased. Popcorn, hot dogs, and laughter filled the night. People still talk about that event, and it’s already becoming a beloved annual tradition.
A Name With Purpose
By 2025, it was clear this wasn’t just a group of friends putting on events. It was a movement, one built on kindness, service, and community connection. It needed a name that reflected that spirit.
The Viking Heart Alliance was born.
Its mission: to bring kindness to the community through meaningful, family‑friendly events that lift spirits, build connection, and remind people that they belong.
What started as a Christmas Party has grown into a nonprofit with a vision, a team of volunteers who believe that joy is contagious, kindness is powerful, and community is worth investing in.
And this is only the beginning.
